What Is Typhoid Fever?
Typhoid is caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria and can lead to high fever, severe abdominal pain, weakness and, without treatment, life-threatening complications. Travellers visiting these regions especially those staying with family or in non-tourist accommodation face a significantly elevated risk of exposure.

Typhoid Vaccination Options at Newmans Pharmacy
At Newmans Pharmacy we offer two forms of typhoid protection to suit your needs:
Injectable typhoid vaccine: A single injection offering three years of protection. Suitable from two years of age. Effective from approximately two weeks after administration.
Oral typhoid vaccine (Vivotif): Three capsules taken on alternate days over five days. Provides approximately one year of protection. Must be completed at least one week before travel.

Allow at least two weeks for the injectable vaccine to take full effect. If choosing the oral option, complete the course at least one week before departure.
Vaccine Schedule
Our travel pharmacist will help you choose the most appropriate option based on your destination, travel dates and personal health history. We also check for interactions with any current medications particularly antibiotics and antimalarials to ensure your vaccination plan is safe and effective.
